Crash: Were You at I-35 & US 290 Wed, Feb. 21 7pm?
I've been away from blogging for awhile, trying to heal up from a neck injury. That's because a hit-and-run driver rear-ended me and a friend. She was behind the wheel of our rental car, and had yielded in a right turn lane on the northwest corner of 290 E and IH-35 frontage roads in Austin. A large black pickup truck with tinted windows slammed into our silver Chevy Cobalt. We pulled over to the curb, and were struggling with door locks and seat belts to exit the vehicle and exchange information. We heard several horns honk behind us. The driver of the truck then climbed the median curb and sped past us on our left, and onto I-35 North. I shudder to think what would have happened had we been quicker at exiting the car.
We got a partial license plate number on the black pickup truck. I had the whole thing in my head, but forgot it as we struggled to get our car out of the road. The impact left a stamp of the offender's license plate in our rear bumper. As you can see in this photograph, the plate bore the word "TRUCK", and the characters "Z C91".
Were you near IH-35 N and US 290 E on February 21, 2007, at approximately 7:00pm? The incident occurred in the right turn lane in front of the Crowne Plaza Hotel. If you have any information about the driver or the incident, please contact the Austin Police Department at:
